When you think of exercising, is the picture in your mind of the gut wrenching and vain popping display of the heavy weight lifter who is showing bulky oil laden muscles? This may not be the exact picture we think about exercise, but we do relate exercise to exhausting work. Exercise can be fun and exciting if approached in the right way.
To make exercising an event we look forward to, we need to reframe in our mind what our exercise program can be like to get the results we want. Let's examine the secrets some of the pros use to get results with the least amount of heavy work.
1. Control Eating and Exercise
Certain controls must be in place for the best results of your weight loss program. You must learn to control your eating habits and control what you eat. If you don't know what these are, research programs to learn from documented and tested results available on the internet. Weight management is not something you just jump into, but must be planned out for best results. It is logical to understand if we eat more calories than we burn per day the remaining calories will turn to fat. This is the way the body works. Believe it and work with this premise.
Controlling the exercise program is easy. Again, as with eating, this will be a learned skill. Help is more available at the gym, the YMCA, in education classes at the local schools or college and if appropriate for you, a trainer can be used to design your exercise program. You can exercise slowly at first, within your health limits, until your body is conditioned to accepting the activity. Then as you feel good about it, step up the activity. Don't let deadlines dictate how hard you will exercise, let your body tell you when it is time to add activities.
2. Identify Your Exercise Program
It has been discussed that you must design your exercise program. This needs to be written down as a planned activity. You can write the plan as to how many reps of this exercise will be accomplished before moving on to the next cycle. Having the plan in your head will not gain the desired results; mostly because you will stray from each element of the program. You will leave out your least favorite activity which throws the whole plan off. Put it on paper and mark off the activity once completed. This is the best way!
3. Photos Are a Must
Surround your morning mirror with pictures when you were at your desired weight, within reason. If you are 40 years old, it may be unreasonable to believe you can get back to your weight when you were 17. Every morning and evening visualize the desired weight picture. Mentally accept this picture as your shape, your features, and remember how good it felt to be that weight. Self-improvement guru Napoleon Hill in Think & Grow Rich: "What the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve."
4. Get in the Zone
As we watched the Olympics on television we saw many of the athletes with ear buds and wires hooked to their mini-players before their competition. What were they listening to? You guessed it, pumping music! The kind of sounds that gets you revved up and zoned out so that you are not bothered by people around you. You are in your own world, so to speak, and you are exercising with ease. You have mental control. Being in your zone helps you achieve the exercise program you have designed for yourself.
5. Supply the Mind with Stimulation and Motivation
Remember what Mr. Hill said about the mind conceiving and achieving? We are focused upon our desired weight when we feed the mind with good articles about eating and training material which will re-enforce your efforts for your desired weight. Constantly re-focus with reading material about exercising. All this mental work helps your belief system to accept the program so you can see results. Check out the magazine rack, you'll find lots of material to enforce this mental attitude.
