Losing weight can be frustrating and difficult. Would you agree!?
If you are trying to lose weight you are probably well aware of the availability of processed-food diets and weight loss programmes out there that promise much, but seemingly deliver little. Well okay you try them, they appear to work, you lose weight, but no sooner have you stopped the diet before you are putting weight back on again. And so you struggle on - perhaps from one diet to another and yet finding no long lasting solution.
Diet, and for that matter exercise combined, sound like all you need but they aren't necessarily going to be enough by themselves to help you maintain the weight you want. Neither is willpower going to be enough - although a lot of us think that is the missing component. None of these will address the root of the problem - which is going to be how you change unhealthy eating that has become a habit.
You see there's a lot more to unhealthy eating than just the physical side of things. There's the psychological aspect to consider, the reason behind the habit persisting.
You may not have thought about it but your mind relegates frequent thoughts or activities to the 'subconscious' mind, and they become habits. Our habits come about as a result of repetition developing into routines. Our mind handles these routines in a way that means we don't have to consciously think too much about what we are doing - and that frees us up to focus on things requiring our conscious attention.
The subconscious mind at work
Take driving a car for example. When we first learn to drive we are having to consciously co-ordinate using our hands to steer the vehicle, to change gear, use the indicators and wipers, and lights etc., as needed. Meanwhile we are also using our feet to engage the clutch, brakes and accelerator. It is a lot to take in and think about consciously.
After a time of practice though these activities start to become familiar, start to become routine and before long they are second nature to us - they become subconscious activities - and that of course frees us up to focus on where we are going and negotiating the car to our destination.
That's all fine and dandy but if we have learnt some bad driving habits in there too - well the thing about habits is that once behaviour is learnt and reinforced it can be a devil to change without proper focus. It is the same with losing weight and continuing with poor eating habits - such as having a need (experienced as a need) for chocolate, ice cream, fast food - that do not support our maintaining our weight loss. This is where self-hypnosis can help!
How self-hypnosis can help
Self-hypnosis can be a very effective means for helping us to lose weight and keep it off. It works by helping to constructively change a given habit at the subconscious level. We learn to change the internal script towards the desire to lose weight and maintain a healthy body.
Very often a weight problem is coupled with issues around our feeling unloved, poor self-perception, low self-esteem. These may stem from childhood and have become habitual thought patterns and beliefs that continue to undermine who we are. By coupling the power of our imagination with self-hypnosis however we can proactively work towards a positive and structured approach to changing our self-image to being who we want to be.
Self-hypnosis can help us therefore to discover new insights about ourselves and face the barriers or issues we have created to stop our weight loss intentions from working. Do look into it!
Where applied self-hypnosis should always be part of a comprehensive approach that includes a healthy diet and regular physical exercise.
