Low Calorie Diet Programs Vs. The Hypothyroid Diet

How do low calorie eating plans and the hypothyroid diet stack up to one another?

If you have hypothyroidism, there's a good chance that you're struggling to lose weight.

Weight gain is a very common sign of this condition. When this is not the sole symptom of hypothyroidism, it is considered to be a very telling development.

In reality, the condition should be called hypometabolism, because a low metabolism is the end result of hypothyroidism.

If you are like the majority of people who live with hypothyroidism, you attempt to shed excess weight by dieting. The most common plan is a low-calorie eating plan.

Diets are problematic when people repeat them or focus solely on cutting their caloric intake.



This is a very natural and understandable strategy because most people think that eating less will cause them to weight less and while this does work, it is usually only effective early on in dieting.

At the onset, the numbers on the scale will start to drop - which causes people to become optimistic.

Problems arise, however, when the numbers stop dropping and dieters get frustrated. Many people find themselves tempted to cut their calories even more.

Frustration usually causes people to quit their diets.

The results include a few pounds of weight loss, immense frustration and a lowered metabolic functioning.

The thyroid hormone is lowered by as much as 50% when people go on low-calorie diets and this results in a lower metabolism by as much as 25-40%.

Things start to change when you go OFF the diet and resume normal eating.

At this time, your metabolism will be lower because of your low calorie eating program. You will nonetheless start eating just like you used to. As a result, you will gain back all the weight you loss and some added pounds as well.

This is so frustrating!

It could take several years for the body to regain its normal metabolic function after calories have been cut dramatically. This is why low calorie eating plans are dangerous.

The hypothyroid diet on the other hand optimizes your metabolism. It enables the body to burn more calories because the body is running more efficiently.

If you optimize your metabolism your body doesn't store fat because blood sugar is stable. There is less inflammation because you have eliminated food sensitivities. And, your body is less burdened with toxins.

As a result, people can think clearer, they have more energy, better digestion, fewer headaches and miscellaneous aches and pains and long-term weight loss.

Rather than just restricting calories for a quick fix, you should consider optimizing your body's metabolism by using a program like the hypothyroid diet.
