Inexpensive Pool Party Games For Kids

By Michelle Howe

Pool party games for kids are a great way to keep all of the little ones entertained. On hot Summer days, water based games are a great way to stay cool. These types of games also cost very little money to arrange. Games can be played with just a few kids or an entire crowd.

Take for example, the classic party activity of having a pinata. As a new alternative, this simple item can be turned into a water based game. You won't have to mess with using a blindfold at all. Instead, have the children swing a bat or stick at the pinata as they run and cannonball into the water. Hidden inside can be all kinds of toys. The toys will should be able to float so that nothing gets destroyed or sinks to the bottom.

Items such as squirt guns, toys and swimming goggles are all good suggestions for filling the pinata. Add a few fun items, but also a few that are useful while in the water. Candy is okay to use, as long as it is enclosed in a water proof container. $1 stores are an excellent source for all kinds of trinkets that could be hidden inside.

Try asking the kids for suggestions. They are sure to have several great ideas for inexpensive items that could be placed inside. In fact, they might enjoy the idea of jumping and trying to hit the pinata so much that they won't even care if their are prizes inside at all. After all, the main fun in the game comes from jumping into the water as you swing.

Another inexpensive game idea can be done by simply filling the pool itself with a bunch of prizes. The kids must be forced to wait until all items are in the water before they can jump in. The adults can also have fun with this game by watching and laughing at the kids as they scramble to grab items and get back to the side of the pool.

Relay style games are another good option for pool side games. Start by tying to ropes to one side and stretching them across to the other side to be tied. The kids can be placed in different teams at this point. Each team must have one person at a time cross the pool on something that floats, as they pull themselves along with the rope. The goal is to get each team member across and back first.

Instead of using inflatables for this game, life jackets could also be used. They provide the buoyancy need for the game and have the added benefit of safety. This would allow even smaller children, who are unable to swim, to be able to participate. Naturally, an adult should be in the water nearby in case any one needs help though.

Pool party games for kids are a lot of fun, but safety should always come first. Every game should be suitable for the age of the kids that will be playing it. Everyone needs to have proper safety gear to use as well. As with any water based activity, a responsible adult should remain nearby to help keep everyone safe.
