Exercises and Workouts - 5 Not-So-Obvious Signs You're Making Progress

Does it often feel like despite regular sessions in the gym and all the healthy meals you're eating you still are not making progress? Sometimes the scales can be slow to show results, but this doesn't necessarily mean you aren't moving forward. The trick is looking at some of the more subtle signs you are making progress and staying focused on those to stay committed.

Here are five not-so-obvious signs that you are seeing great results from your healthy program plan...

1. You're Sleeping Better. One great sign you are making progress is if you are sleeping better each night. Sleep is critical to your overall health and well-being so feeling well rested each day is a giant step in the right direction.

A regular exercise program can go a long way towards encouraging a more restful sleep, so if you are noticing this, that is an important step.

2. Your Cravings Are Diminishing. Another good sign you are making progress is if your cravings are lessening. Those who are addicted to sugar experience withdrawal symptoms which ensure their cravings will become stronger. As you progress on your healthy eating plan and wean your body off of sugar, these will take place less frequently.

Craving less sugar means you will be able to maintain a healthier diet in the future. It will only get easier from here.

3. You're Less Sore After A Workout. The next sign you are making progress with your workout sessions: you're less sore than you were before. Soreness is often indicative of your body still adapting to the exercise you are performing.

In the beginning stages, don't be surprised if each time you wake up after a workout session the previous day, you experience this unwanted soreness. As time progresses soreness should not occur. It's a great sign you are getting stronger.

4. Your Resting Heart Rate Is Lower Than When You Started Working Out. Take a few minutes to test your resting pulse rate. What does it come in at? If it's lower than it was when you first started working out, that's another clear sign of progress. A lower pulse means your heart has to work less hard to pump blood all around your body, improving your overall cardiovascular fitness level.

5. You Are Less Fatigued By Day's End. Finally, the last sign you are making significant progress is when you notice you don't fatigue nearly as fast as you did and by day's end you still have energy left. Compare this to when you first started, when you may have been dragging your feet as the day progressed.

All in all, if you see any of these positive signs taking place, that's a good indication you are heading in the right direction. Don't just rely on the number on the scale to dictate how successful you feel.

Remember all of these are impressive signs you're moving forward.
